Light scratches and scuffs on a leather couch can sometimes be blended when the surface and stitching are still sound. Clean first, identify what actually changed and test a small hidden area before touching the visible panel.
Start by looking at the scratch
Not every mark is the same. A pale line may be a transfer sitting on top of the finish. A wider scuff may have lost color but still have an intact grain. Peeling, a deep cut, a large tear, a failed seam or exposed backing is a different problem. A color-restoration kit is not a way to rebuild a damaged panel.
Run your eyes over the area in indirect daylight. Check the edge of the scratch, the nearby stitching and the feel of the surface. If the top layer is lifting or the material is cracking through, stop and arrange a repair assessment instead of trying to cover it with more color.
Clean before you judge the color
Everyday dust, body oil and old polish can make a mark look darker than it is. Use the cleaner supplied for your compatible system and a soft cloth or brush. Work gently around piping and seams, then let the area dry according to the product instructions. Do not test color on a damp surface; the shade can look right for a few minutes and then dry much lighter.
Choose a small test area
Use the VELGLOSS Color Guide to choose a starting shade, but treat the screen color as a reference only. Existing finish, age and room lighting all change the result. Test behind a cushion, below the front edge or on another hidden section. A good test is large enough to evaluate but small enough to stay out of sight if you need to adjust the color.
Blend the scuff gradually
Load the applicator lightly. Touch the center of the worn area first, then feather the color a little beyond the mark so there is no hard ring around it. Thin passes are easier to control than one heavy coat. Let each pass settle before deciding whether the couch needs more coverage. Keep the sponge moving and avoid pressing product into the grain or stitching.
For a couch with several shades of wear, a three-color palette can give you more room to adjust. Use the closest shade first, then a darker or lighter option only when the hidden test shows that it is needed. More colors do not remove the need for a test; they simply give you another way to approach a difficult match.
Know when to stop
Step back and view the couch from its normal distance. The goal is a more even, cared-for surface, not a claim that every crease or old mark disappears. If the color is even, the grain remains visible and the repair does not draw your eye, move to the care step. If the area looks heavy, patchy or structurally compromised, stop and reassess rather than adding another layer.
Finish with care
